And now it is Halloweek and we sink into the meat of this beautiful season. Here is my favorite spread of this year's autumn crop. It is a frightening, morbid, and breathtaking thing to be a living critter with critter needs in any era, and especially in this, the pre-apocalyptic, late capitalist, fascist Renaissance. I don't think the need of this exercise takes much explaining. We all feel the sword of Damocles, and as the chorus of freaks sings, "that ain't no crime!"
The Skull & Bones Tarot Spread
1. The death within my life: What do mortality, uncertainty, and change have to say to my vitality and passion?
2. The life within my death: What gifts and new beginnings lie within mortality, uncertainty, and change?
3. To be a better human: Strategies to support my better nature while interfacing with other people.
4. To be a better animal: Strategies to cultivate embodiment and vitality with greater natural balance and less self-consciousness.
5. To be a better skeleton: Strategies to embrace mortality and uncertainty with courage and grace.
6. To be a dancing one: Strategies to fuel my artistry, passion, or ecstasy through that embrace.
In tarot, the Death card stands in for great change, graduations, level-ups, and rites of passage as much as mortality. You can use this spread to focus on reckoning with mortality and loss, or with uncertainty and change as needed. To specify which facet of the Death archetype you'd like to explore, state your intention out loud, or write a note in your tarot journal before shuffling.
This one can get heavy, so as always, pace yourself and take it in chunks if needed. Journal to get the most out of it.
I've got one last spread coming up for you on Halloween proper, so we'll do two posts this week. Stay tuned for that! And as a treat, I'm running a Halloweek sale in the shops, so head over to EvvieMarin.com/shop and use the code HALLOW19 for 20% off the October Forever Collection (including originals!) or check out Etsy.com/shop/EvvieMarin for 20% off everything.
Here's hoping your spooky season is continuing on splendid! Be well!
I aim first and foremost to helping people learn and use tarot for themselves. Everything I post is free to use at home or share with friends for personal, educational, non-commercial ends. That said, I recognize that some people will use my tarot spreads with paying clients, and I couldn't stop them even if I wanted to. (It's NBD though.)
If you use my original spreads for paid client work, please make a donation--whatever is fair and proportionate to your use--to support the site and help me keep releasing free tarot spreads for all my readers. If you share my work on your website, blog, or social media pages, give credit and link back (or tag @interrobangtarot on Instagram) so others can find these resources. Thanks so much! Sharing is wonderful, and I do appreciate your support!
